Since 1893, the Keewaydin name has been synonymous with unique opportunities for youth to develop self-confidence, character, and leadership while living simply in wilderness settings. Keewaydin Temagami is a dedicated traditional wilderness canoe tripping camp in northern Ontario, Canada. Keewaydin Dunmore and Songadeewin, in beautiful central Vermont, provide a rich mixture of in-camp activities with robust canoeing and hiking programs, integral to the culture of the camps. The Keewaydin Environmental Education Center (KEEC) offers immersive 5-day visits focused on experiential learning in outdoor settings, enhancing group dynamics, and building community for school groups, with sessions in spring and fall.
While Keewaydin Foundation’s programs are each unique, they share a common history reaching back over 130 years and they pursue a common mission: To provide camping experiences and challenges that help children achieve significant personal growth by living in a community, being independent and living simply in rustic and natural settings.

The Keewaydin name is among the oldest and most respected in the camp community. All of the Keewaydin Foundation programs have a history of excellence and a commitment to youth development. Keewaydin attracts and retains the best staff in the camping industry, many of whom come through the programs as campers themselves, including many well-seasoned, experienced staff. The leadership of the camps are committed to the experience of the campers and deeply invested in the success and enduring legacy of the camps themselves. The camps are accredited through the American Camping Association and the Ontario Camping Association, and the Keewaydin Foundation Board of Trustees provides strategic oversight and guidance. Our network of alumni is vast and filled with people who credit their summers at one of the Keewaydin camps as being indispensable to their success and integral to who they are as adults.
Maybe the greatest reason of all… a summer at a Keewaydin camp offers all the things that kids need the most: an opportunity to step away from electronics and virtual worlds, to live in a tight-knit community, to challenge themselves in ways that develop their resilience and grit, and to just have fun.
Campers learn independence through being away from home, in a space where they can discover who they are for themselves; and interdependence from learning to work in a group, where they discover who they are as a member of a community.
Through living simply in a natural setting and experiencing wilderness tripping, campers develop a passion for physical activity and the natural world, fostering a lifelong appreciation for nature.
In the modern world, inundated with technology, it is increasingly difficult to experience what it means to be unplugged—free from the distractions of smartphones, social media, and 24-hour news updates. Camp life offers a break from the pressures that come with constant connectedness, and it allows campers to immerse themselves in the moment, with the people around them.
Campers are encouraged to recognize their achievements and profound personal growth throughout the summer camp season, promoting self-awareness and self-confidence that they will carry into the school year ahead, and beyond.
Learning to embrace challenges, take appropriate risks within an encouraging community, and step out of one’s comfort zone helps to build confident, curious, resilient kids who have a sense of purpose and inner calm.
From meeting campers and staff who hail from across the U.S. and abroad, to the top-notch programming, to the world-class wilderness trips, our campers spend their summer having unique experiences that are both counterpoint and complement to their lives during the school year.
