January 19, 2021
Dear Keewaydin Families,
Greetings and Happy New Year to all of you! While there are still details remaining to be finalized regarding special protocols for this summer, there are a few important changes that we want you to know now so that you can plan accordingly.
Arrival and Departure:
- By Car: Drop-off will be short and sweet in 2021! On June 27 and July 25, parents will arrive
at designated parking lots and designated times to drop off their boys. You will be greeted
by our staff who will get your son’s belongings and accompany him to his wigwam to meet
his staffman and get settled in his tent and cabin. Unfortunately, because of Covid-19,
parents won’t be able to enter onto the campus, as is our normal custom. We will miss this
feature of opening day, but in the interest of safety, this is what we have to do in 2021.
- By Bus: We will provide bus service from and to New York City and Westchester County,
New York on June 27, July 25 and August 21. Buses will only be occupied at 50% maximum
so that campers and staff will be physically distanced. Staff, campers and drivers will be
masked and the buses will be ventilated.
- By Air: We will allow campers to arrive to fly. Those flying must adhere to appropriate
physical distancing, mask wearing, and handwashing protocols. Keewaydin will be able to
retrieve boys at the Burlington, VT (BTV) airport.
Pre-Camp Behavioral Expectations:
For everyone—staff, campers and parents driving campers to camp– there will be pre-camp behavioral
expectations. We will provide more details on these later, but this primarily means limiting contact with
people outside of your home for a period of ten days before arrival at camp and a negative PCR test
result from a test taken five days before camp. We are letting you know well in advance so that you do
not plan or attend any large gatherings or travel away from home right before camp!
Mid-Season: Because of Covid-19, we will not have parent visiting during the Mid-Season weekend this
summer. We will all miss having this event as we normally do, but we hope you understand.
As always we recommend that you purchase tuition insurance. The data
management program we are now using, CampMinder, offers such a product. They offer a standard
product as well as a “cancel for any reason” product, https://campminder.com/faq-program-protector/.
Thank you for your patience and your understanding as we get ourselves ready for the summer. As we
know more, we will be in touch. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to
